Many years ago on a trip to Washington DC while visiting the Smithian I bought a piece of fools gold there. On most of my trips I bought something to bring back fond memories of the trip. Most of the decorations on my Christmas tree have a story about a place I have been or an event in my life. Well, at that time I was working in corporate America and we had a visit from a and his mother the boy was very ill and he was there visiting for a few hours. He saw the rock on my desk and thought it was really cool. My heart said give it to him but my mind kept thinking of all the fond memories of the trip that rock brought to me. Well my heart won and I gave him the rock. A few months later I received a box at work. When I opened it the rock and a note were inside. The note was from his mother. He had passed away. She talked about how much joy that rock, a silly piece of fools gold, had given him and how he thought it was so cool how I just let him have it. I still have great first memories of that rock and the trip but, my second set of memories and how it made me feel about myself are so much better. I guess my point is having things is great but, in giving to others and what you get back are even better. I want to find someone who feels the same way about life.
