Introduction
I love learning about weird and different stuff. My favorite thing to learn about is history and as I made mention in my earlier blog, I love going to historical sites....just love it......Each time I go back to boston to visit my family I have to go to salem, mass, no question about it, thats my favorite place to be......well upon visiting the house of seven gables I learned something new...back in those days, they only bathed like twice a year (I know how gross)when the weather was warm enough. The reason for sharing that little tidbit of info is this......I also like learning about how traditions came into place. for example, the tradition of a bride carrying a bouquet of flowers down the aisle to the alter is because back in those days from only taking two baths a year, (usually the first one in april) and since most weddings were held in june, the bride from taking a bath 2 months ago of course was smelling pretty funky, so the flowers were carried to help mask the body odor.....so now ya know lol.....now this isnt a tradition, but the term graveyard shift, supposedly come from accidently burying people alive (dont know how that was possible, but ok)and when they were buried they had a string tied around their finger that was attatched to a bell above the ground....if in fact they were buried alive they would ring that bell and whoever was on shift in the graveyard listening for the bell would dig them up. Im just wondering if you guys know of any origins of traditions or phrases?? if so, please share, like i said, i love learning about this stuff!!
