Thoughts on tattoos?

Thoughts on tattoos?

Tattoos have been said to be an ancient art form dating as far back as 3,000 BC.

Women from pre-Ice Age times were typically found with tattoos on their thighs and were thought to be "dancing girls"...or women of dubious backgrounds. Also, some were found with elaborate inkings on their thighs, abdomen and breasts suggesting a flowering type insignia/design that would expand during childbirth and would suggest that these inkings were applied much later during pregnancy.

There are some theories from evidence observed of Ice Age mummified corpses, that suggest tattooing of that era may have been for therapeutic purposes, specifically to alleviate (arthritic) pain.

Facial tattoos were discovered in native North Americans in about the th century and were thought to be applied to highlight facial features.

Probably, the most widely known (and longest enduring) of tattoos come from Samoan and African natives and are widely considered art/artform...as well as images of tribal status.

Of course, the last few decades has seen the introduction of a lot more color (and much more elaborate designs with much improved application techniques) into body tattoos.

Excluding the obvious markings/identification to gang affiliations, what are your thoughts on modern tattoos?
I have a tattoo(s) and want more
I have a tattoo(s) and no longer like it/them
I have a tattoo(s) and will only date others with tattoo(s)
I have a tattoo(s) but don't appreciate them on others
I regret my tattoo as I was drunk/lost a bet
I don't have any tattoos but don't care/am indifferent if others have them
I appreciate tattoos on others but I wouldn't get them myself
I don't have any tattoos and I won't date anyone that does have them

Thanks...and I agree on the facial tattoos! To each, his/her own.

I have one on my wrist. A bit bigger then a quarter. Would like one more. For myself I don't like what I think is called a sleeve. The whole arm. I also don't like more then a few or several large ones. My son has about half a dozen and wants more. His body so I don't say anything to him.

Humans are the most dangerous animals on earth.

If only animals had the ability to know when to keep away from us humans they would be better off.

It's very much a personal choice...thanks for the feedback!

The human body is an art form in itself - and has been - in any form it comes in.
Ink while acceptable is a permanent alteration requiring maintenance that never stops deterioration related to aging.

Historically these marking were often religious (or like) of highly isolated and uneducated cultures. As advanced and educated as human beings may claim, we're not. It was only 500 years ago (in a history of over 6,000 years) we thought the world was flat. Today, the markings can still include a certain ritual or right of independence as much as lay claim to an affiliation (not gang related).

I do not have any tattoos, and stay away from women who do have or plan to get any tattoos. Freedom of choice keeps everyone happy.

Thank you for your feedback and perspective! Certainly agree that every (natural) body is an artform unto itself.

I don't have tattoos right now but I am currently planning on getting some which would be on the thigh, behind the ear, and inner arm. I have always loved tattoos even if my parents aren't fond of them. I would date someone with tattoos.

Tattoos are a form of putting art on you (especially if you drew it) to keep forever. I know a big fear with my parents is when you get old they will stretch out but I think not unless you keep your body in shape.

We all have one life to lead...live it as you choose! (...and never live with any regrets!)

Compliments of 7th grade art class I got my first 2 tatts at 12. At 15 had them removed in order to make friends at new HS. Really enjoy seeing other’s and hearing the background stories. Gel

I don't have any. I guess I could never find a design I wanted inked on my body that I'd have to wear for the rest of my life. Have a good one!

I have one tattoo. I was close to 50 years old before I got it at the urging of my husband. Yeah, took him 3 years to convince me. Do I regret it? Not at all, it's about the only thing tangible left of him 5 years after his death, other than memories. It's on my ass, so hidden from view from others, unless I'm naked, or at least pantyless. Would I get another? Probably not, but I learned a long time ago to never say never.

Twelve is a very young age for a tattoo! Thanks for sharing your story!

When I was much younger and working my way through University, I took a few factory jobs as temp employment to make ends meet. At that time, there were many naval WWII vets that had "green" tattoos on their forearms...I never could see the appeal at the time...I guess in that era (living through a war) changes priorities for some...who knows. Thanks for the comment!
