Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a public research university commonly known as Virginia Tech, offers more than 60 undergraduate degree programs and 140 master's and doctoral degree programs to more than 30,000 students. Founded in 1872, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University has a main campus that spans 2,600 acres and has more than 100 buildings as well as an airport. In addition, there is a 1,700-acre agriculture research farm not far from main campus. Located in Blacksburg, Virginia, the university is 38 miles southwest of Roanoke, Virginia. Virginia Tech is a comprehensive, innovative research university with the largest full-time student population in Virginia.
