The most wonderful time of the year

It's been a nice day. I had a good gig this morning. Played two services in an area church, and though the choir wasn't very good, the music they programmed was actually quite good. It was one of those modern Christmas Cantatas that can always be so iffy. But this one was really quite nice-- very Mahler-esque on occasion, even-- so that made the morning quite tolerable.

My afternoon I spent at home, just hanging out and relaxing. But I did manage to get the tree put up, and this evening, my wife and I got the ornaments and lights and everything on it. It was really nice. That's always one of my favorite parts of the season, getting out the decorations, remembering when we got this ornament or that ornament... who gave us this one... where we bought that one.

It was really a nice evening. Sitting, drinking cocoa, admiring our little Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, bought in 2001 for about $18 at Walmart. It leans to the side, it's obviously fake... but it's nice.

I find myself really getting into the season this year. I'm actually able to sing Christmas songs and enjoy hearing them at stores. I don't even mind sitting in parking lots jockeying for the close spaces. I don't know why... maybe it's because this year's been so unbelievably tumultuous for me, or because my schedule (Christmas-wise, anyway) has been so much less intense than it usually is, or because I'm just in a better mood... but I'm really in the holiday spirit this year. Sometimes it can be hard, but now that it's not, I'm really going to try to not question it, you know?

So whatever holiday you celebrate, celebrate it well and heartily. Hug someone you barely know. Spread love and happiness. Smile at people. And if you see me out there, please come up and say hello. I might even buy you a Peppermint Mocha and sit down for a talk.

We're spreading happiness and smiles, here. It's not like I said, "Mouth-hug someone you barely know"...

Have you seen the "Free Hugs" video? That's what I'm talking about. I'm being wholesome and cheery and mostly non-pervy here. Let's enjoy it while it lasts.

I LOVE that video! In fact I posted a link to it on my livejournal site and everyone went nuts. Although I was mostly being a brat on my answer here (was gonna say "but I'll get slapped" ) it speaks to the same thing I was jokingly referring to. The cameras, etc indicated that it was "okay" to get into it, so people did. I thought that in itself was interesting. But yeah, it really touched me.

Sorry about being a smartass.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Wow... I just went back and re-read my response to you, and it reads much less light-hearted than I meant it. I didn't mean to sound like I was scolding. Sorry.

And you're right-- the signs and the video cameras definitely did add to the comfort level in that tape-- not to mention that in a crowded area like that, all it takes is just one person to think it's OK, and then a lot of people will think it's OK. Safety in numbers, right?

That said, please rest assured that being a smartass here never requires an apology. In fact, it's strongly encouraged. Hug? Heeheehee...
