I believe I know what he is referring to and I posted on the blog about “white lies” the following response. = = = = = = Very good subject, a bit controversial already and I apologize in advance for the long response. I understand the sentiment of what is said about “little white lies leaving black marks” and I can respect that position to a point. Like others have posted I value honesty and believe that honesty is the best policy. But my opinion on “white lies” differs. What a “white lie” is is at the root of my differing. The definition, by the Cambridge Dictionary is. “A lie that is about a subject that is not very important, or one that is told to be polite or kind.” To expend on that some – it is a lie that is not hurtful to anyone and is not a lie that betrays a trust. That said – to which “white lies” should anyone apply that definition? I have had people tell me white lies and worse. People, including me, have various reasons to lie – fear is probably at the base of all of them. I have chosen to forgive some of them if their reason is reasonable and harm, if any, can be and/or is undone. We are all human. I also have to point out something that most, but not necessarily everyone, on this site does and they do it for a good, and non-hurtful, reason. From what I have seen on this site in my time here (12/2013) hardly anyone uses their true full name as their screen name. That includes me obviously. I would say that falls into the category of a “white lie” as it does not harm anyone. Beyond that it is also practical and is accepted by “everyone”. I think it would be foolish for anyone to use their true full name on this site. If anyone reading this who is a purist about ALL lies being unacceptable and any person who tells them is not trustworthy that is fine. Then, take a look at the name you go by on this site. sometimes people just aren't happy unless they are stirring that shit pot! They give it a good self-righteous stir then watch the drama unfold! I happily skip away from that stuff unless it is a direct attack on my or someone I know. Even then I do my best to stay out of it. I'm here for FUN dammit! NOT drama!  Stress is when you wake up screaming and you realize you haven't fallen asleep yet.
